«COOPAC» was created in April 14, 2001 by Mr. Emmanuel RWAKAGARA NZUNGIZE, current Chairman of the Board on his return from the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he lived more than forty years, consolidating the cooperative founded by his father.

COOPAC is based in Gisenyi in the Western Province of Rwanda, at three hours and a half drive from Kigali, and is located on the border with Democratic Republic of Congo. The town of Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is just across the border.

Coffee plantations of COOPAC are mainly located in the Districts of Rubavu and Rutsiro on the slopes of volcanic mountains on the shores of the Lake Kivu, where soils are very fertile and rich in clay minerals from volcanic residue on the one hand and high altitudes (1,500 to 1,900 m) and abundant rains (with an annual average rainfall of 1,200 mm) on the other hand, give this region best conditions and environment to produce Arabica coffees of high quality.
In addition, the region registers two rainy seasons during the year (mid-March to mid-May and September-December) and two coffee harvest seasons : the great rain season from February to May and the short rain season from October to December.
With 110 small coffee producers in its creation, COOPAC organizes and supervises the activities of 2,200 small coffee producers distributed over six primary cooperatives namely KODUKAKI (in Kigeyo) KOTWIBAKABO (in Boneza) COOPCAMU (in Mushonyi) KOZAMUKANYA (in Nyamyumba), COOPROCICAM (in Musasa) and COOPROCAKI (in Kivumu).
COOPAC has acquired legal personality in December 19, 2001, published in the Official Gazette no. 9, issued on May 1, 2002 and is registered and certified Fairtrade under ID no. 2582 since December 19, 2003.
The potential production of COOPACE is estimated at more than 3,000 tons of green coffee per year.
