COOPAC has its own infrastructure and modern production facilities for processing and producing coffee of high quality.

  • Coffee Washing Stations

Washing stations receive coffee cherries brought by small producers and proceed to their transformation into parchment coffee. Details of this process are described below in the production process.

COOPAC currently has three coffee washing stations which are :

a. Coffee Washing station at Nyamwenda

Built with funding from ACDI-VOCA, an American NGO Funded by USAID and launched in April 14, 2003 by President Paul Kagame, it has a production capacity of 100 tons of cherries per day. It is equipped with two lines of 3-disc pulper with a sharpener (McKinnon and Naicoffee) and a one-disc Toto pulper.

b. Coffee Washing station at Kabirizi

Its production capacity is of 40 tons of cherries a day. It is equipped with a line of McKinnon 3-disc pulper with a sharpener.

c. Coffee Washing Station at Kirorero

Its production capacity is of 30 tons of cherries per day. It is equipped with three Toto one-disk-pulper.

  • Dry Processing System

COOPAC has its own dry processing system for transforming parchment or dried coffee to green coffee. This is equipped with :

  • Two lines  of huller machines, John Gordon and McKinnon, with a capacity of 1,500 kg per hour
  • Two catadors
  • A precleaner
  • A destoner
  • A cylindrical grader
  • A silo

Role of these machines is described below in the production process.

  • Laboratories of Control and Quality

COOPAC has two laboratories of control and quality : one is based at headquarters in Gisenyi and the other at the representation office in Kigali. The laboratory of Gisenyi was built and equipped with grant supports from ADF, a US Government NGO, TransFair USA, an American NGO, and with Fair Trade premiums. While that of Kigali is autofunded.

Samples of a kilogram are taken from each batch when parchment coffee is removed from drying tables and sent for laboratory testing, cupping and quality assessment.

Laborantins hull samples separately and calculate the output of green coffee to be exported and the percentage of defects, insect bites, and seeds damaged by machines. Defective coffee is identified and eliminated. Special coffee is identified and treated separately for sale at high prices. Samples are prepared for shipment by DHL to roasters and importers concerned with. This process adds remarkable value to coffee and results in maximum profits.
