Accomplishments, 2001-2005
2001 :
- Established on April 14 2001 by Emmanuel Rwakagara
Nzungize, the Managing Director. After spending 30 years in the Congo,
where he grew up, Emmanuel returned to his native county to refound
the cooperative initially created by his father in the 1950s.
- Creation of the cooperative and adoption of its charter
by the Council of Ministers, with 110 founding members and 255 associates.
2002 :
- Completion of the Business Plan, training of construction
personnel and the beginning of construction of the Nyamwenda washing
station, with a capacity to process 1000 tons of green coffee, with
200 drying tables capable of processing 200 tons of green coffee at
one time. Now with 485 members in Kayove and Nyamyumba.
2003 :
- Completion of construction of the first washing
station at Nyamwenda.
- Initial production of 65 tonnes of dry coffee of
which 45 tons is premier quality Speciality Coffee.
- Acquistion of headquarters office location in Gisenyi.
- Granted special Fair Trade status certificate.
- Now with 546 members in Kayove and Nyamyumba.
2004 :
- Addition of 50 drying tables, giving a grand total
of 250 tables.
- Acquisition of machine to convert dried coffee into
green coffee.
- Now with 914 members in Kayove & Nyamyumba.
2005 :
- Beginning of construction of new mini-washing station
at Kirorero Island in Kayove.
- Study conducted by UB business consultant
- New land purchases
- New equipment ordered
- Beginning of efficient production
- Now with 2,200 members in March, 2005
Contracts signed in 2005:
- 1) Maison Jobin of France: de France 1 : March
- 2) Schluter of Switzerland : June, July
- 3) LOBODIS of France : April, June, July.
- 4) RUCQUOY FRERES of Belgium : May, June August and
September.
