COOPAC Accomplishments, 2001-2005

2001 :

  • Established on April 14 2001 by Emmanuel Rwakagara Nzungize, Chairman of the Board. After spending 40 years in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he grew up, Emmanuel returned to his native county to refound the cooperative initially created by his father in the 1950s.
  • Creation of the cooperative and adoption of its charter by the Council of Ministers, with 110 founding members and 255 associates.

2002 :

  • Completion of the Business Plan, building feasibilty, and Nyamwenda Washing Station building start, with a processing capacity of 1000 tons of green beans coffee, and 200 drying tables, capable of processing 200 tons of green beans coffee at first time. Now with 485 members in Kayove and Nyamyumba.

2003 :

  • Completion of the first Washing Station Building at Nyamwenda.
  • Initial production of 65 tons of dry coffee of which 45 tons is premier quality Speciality Coffee.
  • Acquistion of headquarter offices and warehouse in Gisenyi in Rubavu District.
  • Granted special Fair Trade status certificate.
  • Now with 546 members in Kayove and Nyamyumba.

2004 :

  • Addition of 50 drying tables, totalizing 250 tables.
  • Acquisition of coffee hulling machine.
  • Now with 914 members in Kayove & Nyamyumba.

2005 :

  • Building new Washing Station at Kirorero Island in Kayove.
  • Building Study conducted by UB-Consultant
  • Purchasing new ground
  • New equipment ordered
  • Beginning of efficient production
  • Now with 2,200 members in March, 2005

  • 2) Schluter from Switzerland (2) : June, July
  • 3) LOBODIS from France (3) : April, June, July.
  • 4) RUCQUOY FRERES from Belgium (4) : May, June August and September.
